Q :
My wife and I have been divorced for many years and she has always looked after our children. My adult daughter is now in a relationship with a non-Muslim man. Does that make me a sinner?

A :
You are obliged to teach your children how to follow Islam in an appropriate way. If you fail to do this you will be responsible for neglecting them as Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) taught “ كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ إِثْمًا أَنْ يُضَيِّعَ مَنْ يَقُوتُ ”. If you truly believed that your wife would foster Muslim values when bringing up your children then you are not a sinner. However, if you realise that she is not a good guardian then you must reconnect with your children and show them the way.
