All scholars agree that abortion after 40 days of pregnancy is illegitimate unless it is medically proven that the pregnancy will risk the life of the mother or the baby. It is important to be aware that a baby, whether it is a boy or a girl, is a gift from Almighty Allah, Allah said: " يَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاء إِنَاثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَاء الذُّكُورَ أَوْ يُزَوِّجُهُمْ ذُكْرَانًا وَإِنَاثًا وَيَجْعَلُ مَن يَشَاء عَقِيمًا " (translation: He bestows (children) male or female according to His Will (and Plan), Or He bestows both males and females, and He leaves barren whom He will). Also Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: " مَنْ كُانَّ لَهُ ثَلَاثُ بَنَاتٍ‏ ‏يُؤْوِيهِنَّ وَيَرْحَمُهُنّ وَيَكْفُلُهُنَّ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ ‏الْبَتَّةَ، قَالَ: قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ كَانَتْ اثْنَتَيْنِ قَالَ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ اثْنَتَيْنِ،  قَالَ فرأى بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ أَنْ لَوْ قَالُوا لَهُ وَاحِدَةً لَقَالَ وَاحِدَة  " (translation: If a person has one daughter, God will screen him from the fire of hell owing to his daughter; if he has two daughters, God will admit him to paradise; if he has three, God will exempt him from the obligation of charity and Jehad). There is no redemption for an unauthorized abortion. One can only repent, carry out good deeds and ask Allah for forgiveness.
